A free browser game that puts players behind the wheel of a danfo has been all over Nigerian social media this week. Lagos Run was built by Opeyemi Adeniran, a Nigerian senior frontend engineer based in Berlin who posts on X as Eureka. He told TechCabal the game passed 20,000 players within two days of launch.
How it plays
Lagos Run is an endless runner set in Ojuelegba, where Adeniran grew up. Players swipe to steer around cars, pedestrians and heaps of tyres, stop at bus stops to drop and pick up passengers, collect coins and boosters, and sound the familiar horn. There are missions, levels, a leaderboard and a radio playing popular songs, just like a real danfo.
It needs no sign-up: players only choose a username for the leaderboard, and there is no paywall.
Built in about five weeks with AI
Adeniran said the idea came from missing home after moving to Germany. The first version was flat and two-dimensional; the current 3D version took about four to five weeks from the first line of code. He used AI-generated graphics for the visual assets and Anthropic’s Claude assistant while coding.

Why it matters
Nigeria’s gaming revenue is forecast to reach about $226.6 million in 2026, and mobile games take the biggest share of Africa’s market. Few of those games are made locally or reflect everyday Nigerian life. Lagos Run’s quick success suggests there is a real audience for local stories in games, and that AI tools are lowering the time and cost for a single developer to test an idea. Adeniran has set up a WhatsApp channel for player suggestions and says more Lagos-themed games are planned.
