Samsung Galaxy S26 review: compact and well built, but falling behind

The Galaxy S26 improves battery life and adds AI and video features, but its cameras and 25W charging trail rivals at the same price.

Samsung Galaxy S26 review: compact and well built, but falling behind

How we reviewed this phone: WebBuild Tech has not tested the Samsung Galaxy S26 ourselves. This review brings together the published specifications and the findings of GSMArena’s full hands-on review, which included lab tests of the battery, display and cameras. Opinions below are attributed to that testing. Prices and availability in Nigeria vary, so check with authorised retailers.

The Galaxy S26 is the smallest of Samsung’s 2026 flagships, released on 6 March 2026. It has a 6.3-inch LTPO AMOLED screen, weighs 167g and, outside the US, Canada and China, runs on the Exynos 2600 chip.

In the US, GSMArena says the 12GB/256GB model starts at $900.

Quick verdict

GSMArena credits Samsung with better battery life, slightly faster charging and new AI and video features compared with the S25. But it says the S26 is “more than a few laps behind the competition” in camera hardware, battery technology and charging, so unless you love One UI, your money may be better spent elsewhere.

Specifications from GSMArena’s Samsung Galaxy S26 spec sheet. Some features vary by market.

What reviewers liked

  • Premium build quality
  • Bright LTPO OLED panel
  • Better battery life and faster charging than the Galaxy S25
  • Seven years of Android updates and security patches
  • Excellent selfie camera with autofocus
  • Useful video features including LUTs and Horizon Lock

What could be better

  • Very minor upgrade over the Galaxy S25
  • Basic IP68 rating when some rivals offer IP69
  • Display lacks 10-bit colour, high-frequency PWM dimming and Dolby Vision
  • No 4K120 video or APV codec (found on the S26 Ultra)
  • Night mode is unintuitive
  • 25W charging lags even behind the mid-range Galaxy A57’s 45W

Alternatives to consider

At its US price, GSMArena says it goes head-to-head with the iPhone 17 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro; in Europe and India, the €900–1,000 bracket is far more competitive.

Who should buy it

Best for Samsung loyalists who want a small phone with long updates and Galaxy AI. If you want the best camera or charging for your money, look at rivals first.
