Nigerian cybersecurity startup Aeon raises $1 million led by Terra Industries

Aeon, a Nigerian cybersecurity startup, has raised $1 million in a pre-seed round led by Terra Industries, the defence technology company, according to an announcement published on 18 September 2026.

What Aeon does

Aeon builds cyber defence infrastructure for high-trust organisations such as financial institutions and infrastructure operators in Africa and the wider Global South. Its tools monitor networks, code, cloud systems and devices, and help teams find and fix weaknesses. Its products are called Aeon Edge and Aeon Console.

The company was founded by Samuel Ogbonyomi (chief executive), Ben Eluan and Alex Idowu.

“Almost every operator we worked with had a dozen security tools and no single view of their exposure.”

Who invested

Terra Industries led the round. Reporting by TechCabal lists other participants including Resilience17, the fund founded by Flutterwave chief executive Olugbenga Agboola, as well as Kaleo, DFS Labs, Ajim Capital and Seedstars.

Terra Industries, founded in 2024, builds security and surveillance systems for critical sectors across Africa. Its co-founder Nathan Nwachuku said the company sees Aeon becoming “the sovereign cyber defense layer for the Global South”.

How the money will be used

  • Developing Aeon’s products
  • Expanding business development
  • Turning pilots with financial services and cloud infrastructure companies into paying customers
  • A commercial joint venture with Terra to deploy cyber defence technology in military and commercial settings

Why it matters

Nigerian banks, fintechs and telecom companies are frequent targets for fraud, ransomware and data theft, and many rely on imported security tools priced in dollars. A locally built platform that combines several tools into one view could appeal to organisations that struggle with the cost and complexity of managing many separate products. Aeon’s next challenge is converting pilots into long-term contracts in a market where security budgets are tight.
