Samsung Galaxy A17 5G review: six years of updates, but laggy and basic

How we reviewed this phone: WebBuild Tech has not tested the Samsung Galaxy A17 ourselves. This review brings together the published specifications and the findings of GSMArena’s full hands-on review, which included lab tests of the battery, display and cameras. Opinions below are attributed to that testing. Prices and availability in Nigeria vary, so check with authorised retailers.

The Galaxy A17 5G, released on 14 August 2025, is one of Samsung’s cheapest 5G phones. It has a 6.7-inch 90Hz Super AMOLED screen, the Exynos 1330 chip, a 5,000mAh battery with 25W charging, IP54 splash resistance, a microSD slot and six major Android updates.

GSMArena says it costs $189 in the US.

Quick verdict

GSMArena says that at its current pricing the A17 5G is “far from competitive” in its bracket, as rivals offer more power, longer battery life, faster charging and brighter screens. The biggest issue was lag on the 4GB model tested; the 6GB version may be better.

Buying tips for Nigeria

  • Buy from an authorised dealer or the brand’s official store so you get a valid local warranty.
